Have a Homemade New Year!

Alas, the new year is upon us. Time to "pinky swear" to losing weight, eating better, swearing less, and all those things that make me, Me! I usually start the year off strong, but by January 4th, I'm usually losing steam in the Resolution Department. So this year I am simply going to do my best every, single day. It's overwhelming but not too specific at the same time. Perfect.

To start the year off right, I'm continuing a tradition that I started several years ago. Cooking up a hearty, homemade cream of mushroom soup in the crock pot. OMG. It's one of my favorite soups and a "soup"er opportunity to use a variety of mushrooms like shiitake and portabello. The mushrooms, onions, and garlic are sauteed on the stove top which fills the house up with great smells. Then the entire thing is tossed in the crock pot. Serve it up with a hearty bread and dark beer!

I'm also continuing my rug hooking marathon. Recently finished is this pillow top that still needs a fabric back added as well as the pillow form. (Please note Skeeter, my full-time blogging assistant.)

So on to the next hooking project. I haven't decided what it is going to be yet. Sometimes I just pull out the equipment and let my imagination guide me. As always, I am using my superb, homemade PVC rug hooking frame. (Again, Skeeter offers assistance.)

The strips I am using are size #4 (1/8"). I normally use wider strips; however, I want to design something with more detail this time.

The strips above are from one of my fave rug hooking sources Shorn Sheep. The quality of wool and colors are fabulous. Stay tuned for an update on this project.

Until then, I hope everyone has a great new year full of homemade goodness from food to fiber!
