Leslie Hall. The Handmade Nation's superstar.

Normally when I blog, I selfishly write and whine about the minutia of my life. But I have to take a moment to give a shout out to Leslie Hall. I like to refer to her as the rock star for crafters and the handmade movement. I mean, don't we need a superstar?
Leslie Hall initally gained recognition for her gem sweaters. Yes, crafters, sweaters decorated with gems (as in the kind you can buy at Hobby Lobby and adhere with a glue gun). It is reported that Leslie, who hails from Ames, Iowa, has more than 400 of the bejeweled beauties. She and her sweaters became an Internet sensation. Here is a link to some of her sweaters:
With the fame that followed, Leslie formed a band and, while they have numerous songs, one of them is about gem sweaters (of course) and this one called "Craft Talk." See the knitters in the background??

I am sorry I didn't get to see her and her band at the Englert Theatre in Iowa City last month (Sept 2010). And, I am really sorry that I cannot get into one of her art classes. Leslie attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts (in Boston) and has taught some mixed media classes at the Des Moines Art Center..and they are always full!
